“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2
Recently, I had to stand up for my students and take a courageous stance for their own good. It’s not easy for me to do this as I am always conflicted and believe that people have a right to their feelings and how they conduct themselves.
The stance that I took would not have happened without thoughtful reflection and prayer. And, it certainly would not have happened had some ‘still small voice’ didn’t continue to nag me.
While in the middle of this uncomfortable mire it has occurred to me that the ‘patterns of this world’ begins with selfishness and ends with blind arrogance. I am just as guilty of selfish behavior as anyone else, but the goal is to not be ‘of this world’.
Doing the right thing and standing for what is right, true, and good, is not easy and it is downright uncomfortable.
Please, Jesus, help me to understand my role in this world. Help me to walk in your steps and help me to look at others with love.
